USTC International Student Dragon Boat Team Established
USTC Dragon Boat
INVITATION
Individual time tests for paddling a distance of seventy meters was administered to all qualified international students who are willing to attend the competition in the future and have previous training experience.
Several international students have already participated in the USTC Dragon Boat Team since the competition held in Huangshan 2017. They cooperated with their excellent Chinese teammates in that competition .
The dragon boat team invited more international students to join the training, which generated interest for newcomers to try this amazing Chinese sport last semester.
This semester, the USTC Dragon Boat Team decided to offer routine training every week with English instructions. The number of international students joining the training increased tremendously.
Our excellent coordination has also proved to dramatically increase each team member"s enthusiasm, camaraderie, and skill for the sport. Now we have enough students to build a competitive team, so we decided to do it.
Team Leader--Coach Sara
During the process of building the team, Coach Sara, who came from Andalusia and speaks English with a charming Spanish accent, has helped us a lot. Actually, Sara was one of our first International teammates who attended the competition in Huangshan last year. She invited a lot of international students to the team and helped us organize training for them. For the reason of cultural difference, there used to be some small conflicts during our work.
Sara in Huangshan
International students say:
Just like Sara, we now have a lot of teammates from every corner of this planet. This kind of diversity would benefit our teammates on experiencing different cultures, make this sport more international, and make our team a lot more interesting.
